Worship time: Bible Passage: Luke 2:39–52
We heard about when Jesus was a boy, and how He traveled with His parents, Mary and Joseph, to Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover. They traveled with a large group of family and friends and after the celebration, Mary and Joseph began their journey home. But they did not realize that Jesus was not with them! They searched for him and three days later, found him in the Temple in Jerusalem.
Mary and Joseph were worried. Jesus knew that God was His Father and that even though he was a young boy he belonged to God and had a special purpose. Every young child should know that God has a plan for them too.
Songs: “Jesus Loves Me” - “Serás como árbol plantado” (like a tree planted by streams of water) Psalm 1:3
During circle time we learned about star fruit! Mrs. Doreen brought some from her tree for us to see and taste. We learned that a star fruit starts as a tiny, beautiful flower before it grows into a fruit. We also learned about different kinds of apples and discovered that apples start as beautiful flowers, too. God’s creation is truly amazing!
Song: “Roots, Trunk, Branches, Leaves” (sung to the tune of “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes”) find it on YouTube.
During activity time, we got to explore star fruit using all our senses! We touched its unique texture, looked closely at its tiny flowers and buds, smelled it, and even tasted it. We also enjoyed eating some mango and apples.
Then, Mrs. Vivi cut the star fruit in half, and we used it to paint beautiful stars! ⭐ We did the same with the apples and had fun discovering the shapes they made.
We hope to do some cooking with our apples soon!
Rhyme: Apple Tree, Apple Tree
Story time books: What are Hands for? & Tap The Tree
SEEDS
Worship
Mrs. Vivi brought in some bread as we continued learning our song, “The Bread of Life” and had the opportunity to congratulate Mr. Jean on his wedding (which took place on Saturday, September 25 - see photo in gallery). We also welcomed an old friend Clark and his parents and honored Elena for her birthday this week.
Science
The older students continued to learn about Primates this week, focusing on apes and prosimians. We also began to talk about marine mammals and marsupials. They had fun completing a mammals word search in teams. The two younger groups will have an opportunity to discuss these topics this week as well.
Studio
The students were thrilled to finally finish their first watercolor painting: Jellyfish! This project involved a lot of practice mixing colors, keeping the paint tin clean, and using various brush strokes to create different effects. The students were very focused and worked well through the difficult skills. We love how they turned out!
History
We finally worked on our Timeline Books this week. The kids were so excited to paste the labels of the events we’ve studied in the year so far and see how the pages can be flipped to see history move right before your eyes. It’s like our own little, portable time machine! We also continued talking about our next composer in our Music History study: Johann Sebastian Bach.

OAKS
Worship
We have been memorizing the book of James and the students were challenged to write down everything that they remembered from Chapter 1. We call this hiding the word of God in our hearts. James is a very practical book and so we hope that this “hidden word” gives them guidance to walk in God’s ways all their lives.
Science
In Anatomy and Physiology, the students began to learn about the skeletal system. We discussed the different anatomical planes and the vocabulary scientists use to describe the different parts of the human body in relation to each other. In Physics, we conducted several demonstrations in class to illustrate the concept of density and how Archimedes concluded that density equals an object's mass divided by its volume. We performed a simple density tower experiment, observing how oil and water separated and how the more dense liquid settled at the bottom of the beaker.
History
The students read through the Mayflower Compact, which served as one of the first documents that established governance under God in the colonies of the New World. The settlers needed to agree on a way that they were going to live together and understood that their submission to the authority of God in that endeavor was essential. This is an important document as we begin to see the foundations of the formation of the United States of America.
