Week 5 - A World of Play
WATER from the Well

We integrated a lot of games this week into our learning. Some were done outside and some inside, but either way, the days were filled with lots of smiles.

THE GARDEN
This week during worship time, Mrs. Vivi read from John, chapter 15.
We are learning about the Fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These are special qualities that God’s Holy Spirit helps grow in our hearts as we follow Jesus. Just like fruit grows on a tree, or a wine, these wonderful qualities grow in us as we learn about God's love for others, and follow Jesus!

During circle time, we began learning about the different parts of a tree and how God made many different types of trees, including fruit and floral trees. We counted mangoes on our felt tree and even got to dance and shake along to the “Mango Song”! We also explored our playground and discovered different types of roots. It was so much fun exploring and learning together!
For activity time, we got to make a tree by tracing our hands and arms. We then colored the trunk and painted the top to create a beautiful, colorful tree!

SEEDS
In Worship, we began a new “Name of God” - The Bread of Life. We shared two portions of Scripture that pointed to God's provision for his people: the manna in the wilderness and the feeding of the 5,000. In both, we see that God provides, but by Jesus saying that He was the bread of life, we understand that His provision is more than the things He gives us (like food), but He himself is all we need. We also honored our new student Benicio for his birthday.
In History, the students learned about the Pilgrims, who landed north of Jamestown, VA in Plymouth Plantation, MA. We also played games and began hearing about our next composer,Johannes Sebastian Bach, in our music history unit.
In Science this week our protagonists in Zoology were primates. Primates are a kind of mammal and although people think all primates are monkeys, we learned that there are three distinct groups: monkeys, apes, and prosimians. All of them share two features: binocular vision and ten fingers and ten toes. We enjoyed seeing pictures of different monkeys this week and will learn more about apes and prosimians in the upcoming week.
For Studio, the kids were so excited to start their first watercolor painting. The painting consists of three differently colored jellyfish. After drawing the jellyfish, they learned to mix the different colors on the paint palette instead of directly on the paint tins. Additionally, they explored how adding water to the paper in some areas helped the paint "bleed" and create a transparent effect on the jellyfish.

OAKS
In Oaks History, we studied the travels of both Henry Hudson and the Mayflower voyage to North America. We learned that there were many reasons why people chose to explore far away places. We had fun playing some Native American games that would have been played during colonial times.
In Anatomy and Physiology, we reviewed the parts of the cell. Students committed to reviewing these parts and coming ready to explain them. We will work on some hands-on examples of diffusion and osmosis in our next meeting as well.
The Physics students shared their creative stories that illustrated force, friction and mechanical equilibrium. They enjoyed listening to and watching each other's examples. They also began the chapter on density of matter and we will review those concepts next week.
