Week 7: Ready to Celebrate!
Week 7: Ready to Celebrate!
Even with a power outage, we were able to still meet last week and enjoy more fun and learning. We talked about the second special time (after the Sabbath) that God has appointed for his people: The Feast of Trumpets! Reminder that there are no classes this week, but you can still catch up on the readings about the topics we covered in our classes. Enjoy the photos from The Garden, Seeds and Oaks.

First Break Week: No classes October 1 or 3. Happy Feast of Trumpets!
The Garden
The kids loved listening to the book, “The Giving Tree” this week by Shel Silverstein. The apples from the story made all of us excited to share some apples during snack time (which are a typical treat during the Feast of Trumpets) and also look at the cool star shape that appears when you cut the core in half. We used these to create “star” paintings, using the apple cores as homemade stamps for the paint.
Seeds
We discussed the special appointed time this week during worship this week: The Feast of Trumpets. The shofar was blown and we heard the story of how Abraham was provided a ram to sacrifice instead of his son Isaac. In our special Science/History workshop, we learned how papyrus was made and even got to create our own “cartouche” writings, using Egyptian hieroglyphics.

This week in biology, the Oaks students learned about the differences between an animal cell and a plant cell. To review, they worked in teams to correctly label each organelle of both. They also touched on scientific notation and orders of magnitude. In History, the students also began working on cartouche writing from Egypt and some of the students presented their creative projects: Clay tablets from Olivia and Mateo and Josh’s “The Game of Canaan.”
