THE GARDEN
This week, we looked at another story where Jesus appears to his disciples after the resurrection. I confessed to the children that this would be an occasion where I would have loved to have witnessed! The two disciples walking on the road toward Emmaus couldn't tell that it was Jesus walking behind them, but their hearts were stirred as he explained how all the Old Testament had been telling that Messiah would have to die and suffer and how it all pointed to Him. When they broke bread with Jesus is when their eyes were opened and they could see that it was Him with them. We enjoyed our time outside playing leapfrog and a new fox game, but the highlight of the week was working on their special Mother’s Day gift. They each chose a button or a heart to be able to close their pouch. I loved hearing them say things like: “I chose a heart because my mommy loves hearts,” or “I like the purple button because my mom loves buttons.” They were intentional and worked hard to complete the project. In the end, a few of them asked me to add a string to give it a “purse” option. Most of them decided that they wouldn’t wait until Mother’s Day because they were too excited to share it. It was a joy to collaborate with them on this.

SEEDS
In Seeds, we began to explore the Persian empire, through the lens of one of the most famous queens in the Bible, Esther. Mrs. Vivi told her story in worship and we also honored Finn for his birthday. But perhaps the most exciting event of the week was the much anticipated SEEDS Science Animal Presentations.
The day finally arrived! There was so much excitement as the children walked in with their animal report projects in hand. I loved celebrating the 6th day of Creation by learning about all of these magnificent animals. I was so proud of those who did it for the first time as well as for those who are getting more confident each time they do it. In the end, we set up the posters around the room for all to enjoy during the last few weeks. They will also be on display on the final presentation day for all the parents to see.
OAKS
Jeremias, just like Finn in Seeds, celebrated his birthday this week with his Oaks pals. The students enjoyed snacks and fun in the park. Back in the classroom, we were studying more about Greek civilization, as our history study is observing the growth of this society before its explosion as an empire under Alexander the Great. The students looked at some examples of Greek pottery and practiced molding some small pots themselves from air-dry clay. This week in biology, the Oaks students studied their last chapter of the year—about the endocrine system. They explored how the different glands within the human body release chemical messengers, hormones, to affect their intended target tissues to achieve a certain outcome. Also, the students were assigned their topic for their final project, which everyone is excited about!

Memory Verse
“Do you not know? Do you not hear?
Has it not been told you from the beginning?
Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?
He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth,
and its people are like grasshoppers.
He stretches out the heavens like a canopy,
and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in;
who brings princes to nothing,
and makes the rulers of the earth as emptiness.
Scarcely are they planted, scarcely sown,
scarcely has their stem taken root in the earth,
when he blows on them, and they wither,
and the tempest carries them off like stubble.
To whom then will you compare me,
that I should be like him? says the Holy One.”
