Week 33: What a Wonderful World
The Garden students celebrated during a sudden shower of flowers, that rained down during a particular blustery morning. They collected the beautiful orange and yellow leaves that were everywhere. In Seeds a discovery of a bird in the park, and a couple of dissections in Oaks, really left us in awe and wonder at the world that our Creator has made.

THE GARDEN
This week our students completed their last self-portraits of the year. This helps them see how much they have grown throughout the year. I enjoyed watching them work with confidence at something that was very challenging for them a few months ago. We reviewed many of our favorite songs from the school year and heard the first part of the story of Jesus appearing to his disciples by the sea. During the part of the story when they were about to eat the kids started commenting how Jesus ¨…always breaks the bread with them!¨ The rainy and thunderous days found us staying inside building elaborate structures with blocks and playing our favorite board games, especially ¨The Floor is Lava.¨
This week:
Letter: “Y” is for “Yellow”
Theme: Thank you, God, for this beautiful world.
SEEDS
Genesis 1:26-28 states: “...and God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created them; male and female He created them.
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth”.
In addition to animals, God made people on the sixth day of creation. But unlike animals, people were created to bear the image of God. What an amazing truth We meditated on this in Science class as we wrapped up the days of creation. Inspired by God’s amazing design, the students began working on an abstract self-portrait in class. They worked on their background with oil pastels and watercolors. We also took a picture of them to use in this project which they will assemble together this week to use as decorations for the final presentation.
In our worship time, we continued through the old testament telling the story of Nehemiah. We learned that God can use people, no matter who they are, to do great things. Nehemiah and the residents of Jerusalem had a big task: re-build the destroyed walls of the city. Despite challenges, the people had a mind to work and the wall was completed in only 52 days. Why? Because God was with them!
We honored Carolina this week for her birthday! Outside, we played in the park and discovered a small dead bird. While some of the students were sad, one had the good idea to give it a propwer burial, and the grave was decorated with flowers and leaves. While we marvel at God’s creation and the world He made, we remember that because of sin, all things die. But thanks be to Christ, that we have eternal life through Him!
Finally, the students worked on their pottery in History class, and in P.E. a super obstacle course was set up in the sanctuary due to the rain. We still had a great time.
OAKS
The Oaks had a SUPER exciting week, exploring God’s creation. The group performed not one, but two dissections with Mrs. Catherine. First, they picked through owl pellets and found skeletons of rodents in various sizes. They had so much fun identifying the different bones and teeth. And in the second dissection, we discovered that the frog was a female based on the size of the tympanum and the presence of the oviduct organ. They really enjoyed seeing all the organs and getting to make the different dissection incisions. What an amazing way to appreciate the intricate details our Creator has included in each of his creations.
In biology, the students had the opportunity to dissect barn owl pellets and a frog. In the owl pellets, the students
They also had the opportunity to create themselves as the made some Greek-inspired pottery in History class.

Memory Verses
“Do you not know? Do you not hear?
Has it not been told you from the beginning?
Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?
He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth,
and its people are like grasshoppers.
He stretches out the heavens like a canopy,
and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in;
who brings princes to nothing,
and makes the rulers of the earth as emptiness.
Scarcely are they planted, scarcely sown,
scarcely has their stem taken root in the earth,
when he blows on them, and they wither,
and the tempest carries them off like stubble.
To whom then will you compare me,
that I should be like him? says the Holy One.
Lift up your eyes on high and see:
who created these?
He who brings out their host by number,
calling them all by name;
by the greatness of his might
and because he is strong in power,
not one is missing.”
