Week 30: A Hair-Raising Story!
In our worship story this week, we learned about the fall of Jerusalem by the Babylonians in 585 BC as told in the books of the Chronicles. We don’t know if the scary details of the story inspired these hairdos, but we thought it good enough to make the cover photo. Enjoy the readings and photos!

THE GARDEN
This week, the letter of the week was “F” for “frog.” On Tuesday, as many of our students were recovering from a cold, Cesare and Jonah took their time making a play doh frog. Emma coached them to make all the body parts first and then put it all together. They also worked in the block area together. On Thursday during our worship time, we picked up the story after Jesus had risen from the dead when Mary Magdalene and her friends visited the tomb and saw that it was empty. When Jesus appeared to Mary she recognized him when she heard him say her name. Jesus told her to go tell the others that he was alive. During activity time, we continued learning about frogs and used crayons to draw a frog. The kids could choose different shades of green and yellow and whether they would like their frog to be speckled or plain. Emma taught them a new song and fingerplay called “Five Green and Speckled Frogs.” At the end of the day, we enjoyed reading some of the lovely adventures of Frog and Toad and we will continue reading it for the next few weeks.
This week:
Letter: “X” is for “Fox”
Theme: Psalm 119:98, “God’s Word makes me wiser than my enemies”
SEEDS
We learned that the nation of Judah was taken captive to Babylon and the city of Jerusalem was left in flames. It was a very sad and terrible time, and yet, the LORD was still at work. He sent his people to a foreign land, but used a remnant to remain faithful even in a dark place. This story continued on Thursday as many of the OAKS began to tell the story of Daniel, who was one of the young man taken.
We celebrated two birthdays this week: Eli and Amanda Cristina! Both received some great books and it was great to read them together. In History, we worked on our timeline and had a great time together in the park.
This week in Science, we began to discuss the distinguishing features of birds, specifically their ability to fly. I brought a few different feathers to look at and compare. We will learn more about different kinds of feathers as well as why birds need them. I also took the class time to explain their upcoming animal project which will consist of a poster and a brief oral presentation in front of their class. Then, the children were able to pull a small piece of paper with the name of an animal from a bowl. They each got a different animal to research and present. They were so excited to begin at home! Please let us know if you have any questions about it. We can’t wait to hear them share what they have learned.
OAKS
The Oaks had another quiz this week in Science. We are so proud of the way they have handled this College Prep Biology course all year. We also are so proud of the way they have lead the worship stories this semester. Jeremias, Judah, Isaiah and their discipleship mentor, Mr. Jean acted out the lives of Daniel and his friends in Babylon. We learned how important it is for us to remain holy, even in dark places. Some would wonder why continue following the LORD after such a terrible deportation to Babylon, but Daniel and his friends remained faithful and taught us that we should too, no matter what May occur in our world. Their story will continue next week.
Memory Verse
“Do you not know? Do you not hear?
Has it not been told you from the beginning?
Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?
He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth,
and its people are like grasshoppers.
He stretches out the heavens like a canopy,
and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in;
who brings princes to nothing,
and makes the rulers of the earth as emptiness.”
