Week 34: June 13-16 - Finishing Strong and Sweet

Finishing Strong and Sweet

Kids gather for the morning worship story based on Psalm 19.

What an incredible year it has been! As the final WATER from the Well newsletter for this program year, we wanted to say thank you for all of your support and for allowing us to sow seeds of faith, art and education into the lives of your children, whether in the SEEDS program, The Garden, or our Drama Clubs. Have a great summer!

Final day of class is this Thursday, June 16. Both Garden and Seeds students should arrive at 9:30am, with the presentation for parents beginning at 11:15am.

Trying the sweet apples with honey.

As we draw near to the end of the year, the teachers definitely have mixed feelings. It has been an honor to have the Garden children with us throughout this year watching what God has been doing in all of their lives but we will miss them greatly this summer.

This week we got to honor Juan Diego even though his birthday is in July. The kids enjoyed a special frozen treat outside together as we celebrated the last birthday in The Garden.

We made flower decorations using coffee filters and water colors for our final day presentation.

The kids also made end of the year self portraits to be able to compare them to the ones made at the beginning of the year. We can all see the immense progress they’ve made.

For the last week of worship we did an activity with the children inspired by Psalm 19. Miss Vivi brought apples and honey and everyone got the chance to taste. Before they tasted it they had to say, “The Word of God is sweeter than honey”. They loved it and we are sure it's a memory they will take with them throughout the years. The Word of God IS sweeter than honey and it nourishes our spirits.

Summer celebration!

Enjoying popsicles on a hot day.

FINAL MEMORY VERSE OF THE YEAR

“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”
— Revelation 1:8

…And we celebrate you!

Dana was honored this week at SEEDS.

Working on the cover for our Names of God book.

In Science, we put our final touches to our journals this week and the kids were so excited to take them home. We discussed how stems and trees grow and compared it with what we knew about roots. We also watched an interesting video about how maple syrup is made. The kids were able to see the process and understand where in the tree the sap is located. Finally, we each made small seed envelopes and placed three little seeds that we harvested from our very own bean plants outside!! They are now responsible to make those seeds grow at home and harvest even more. Please send us pictures of your bean plants in the summer so we can rejoice with you!

And in History, we completed our unit study of the History of Puerto Rico from 1493 to 1850. This era was sadly marked by the Slave trade, in which millions of Africans were transported to the West Indies, including Puerto Rico. Because of this, we discussed how even today, many of the traditions celebrated here are mixtures of cultures from the native Taínos, Africans, and the European settlers.

On Wednesday, the students will finally take home their binders and their timelines. Make sure that you take the time to look through all that they did and keep in safe as a document of their work.
