Week 33: May 30 - June 3 - All a Buzz!

All a Buzz!

We were busy bees this week at both Seeds and the Garden.

It was a week full of drama, not just because of the rehearsals for the Drama Club’s June 9 performance, but because we had a bird rescue too at the Garden! Moving on from birds, the Garden kids explored more about bees and even made their own candles. Finally, we finished the week at Seeds with another drama worship performance based on Revelation 1.

These hexagon tiles remind us of beehives.

It has been fun, interesting and amazing to BEE learning about bees. This week at Garden the children drew bees, read books about their daily routine, saw videos of different types and colors of bees and learned about a VERY brave bee keeper. Miss Vivi brought bee pollen to class and the kids got to smell it. One child said,  “Huele a vitamina vieja”. Another said: “Huele a la salsa de Wendys”. We had a good laugh after that. They also enjoyed making candles with beeswax and decorating them afterwards. The children went to the park and pretended to be bees because the park has many hexagon shaped flooring. The children also watered the plants and gathered the beans that are growing in our garden.

For worship time, we practiced the song we will perform as a group with Miss Nicole and examined the special instrument that will be used. We learned that when Jesus went to Heaven and sent the Holy Spirit to the disciples, they did great things in His name. Peter healed a lame man and Philip taught in Samaria and many people believed and got baptized. John and Peter came to Samaria and laid hands on the people and prayed for them to receive the Holy Spirit and they did.  The Holy Spirit is the Helper we need to obey Jesus’ command to go and make disciples of all nations. God is so great, He is always with us and helps us throughout our day, especially if we ask.

Proud of our work

The beeswax made some amazing candles!

FINAL MEMORY VERSE OF THE YEAR

“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”
— Revelation 1:8

Yes!

These are the biggest SEEDS who will be moving on to the OAKS program next year. We will be honoring them in a special way at next week’s closing presentation.

Carolina was honored for her birthday this week.

What are the three main purposes of roots? This was the question that began our discussion on our theme of the week. Roots anchor the plant, absorb nutrients and water from the soil, and help prevent erosion. We also learned how strong roots can be and that to grow they add cells to their tips to become long and to their sides to become wide. On Friday, we added to the conversation by talking about different kinds or roots and the process of “rooting” a plant to grow a new one with a branch or a leaf. Finally, we encouraged the kids to think about the significance of roots in our spiritual life. We reminded them to be strong in their faith and be anchored on the Word of God and His living water so they too can grow and glorify God.

In Worship, we focused on our last memory verse of the year: Revelation 1:8. The students acted out the description we read about in the first 8 verses of that chapter and we learned that Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. Another great reason to worship Him. In History, we went back in time to talk about the History of Puerto Rico during the era we have covered this year: 1500-1850. So far, we learned a bit about the Taino culture as it was when the Spaniards arrived and then about the beginnings of the colonization of “Boriken.” Even today, we can see the ruins of the first Spanish settlement right here in the Caparra area of Guaynabo.
