Week 32: May 16-20 - Can you say...vacation?

Can you say…vacation?

It was a special day when everyone was present with their t-shirts and a photo shoot was called for. A little silliness was absolutely necessary,

Welcome back! We are so excited to see you all again at the Center. This is the final stretch for the program year. Remember that the closing ceremony for both the Garden and Seeds programs will be on Thursday, June 16.

Elena reads her book to Miss Nicole and the others.

We have many illustrators and authors at the Garden. The children had the opportunity to read the book creations that they had made the week before to their friends and teachers. It was a special moment to see each of them so attentive to each other’s work. They enjoyed it a lot and the teachers were very proud. Some kids made more books this week. This week the children were introduced to puppets and their puppet theater. They had a good laugh and fun time creating stories with the animal puppets. We also played fun board games.

This week we also started talking about bees. Miss Vivi read a book that talked about the life of a bee. The children got to share what they would like to learn about bees in the weeks to come. Some said, “Why are they different colors?”, “What is pollen?”, “Why do they sting?”. We will be learning more about these amazing pollinators that God carefully and wonderfully designed.

In worship, we talked about the Great Commission and God’s gift of the Holy Spirit. Jesus left us the Holy Spirit and commanded all of His disciples (which includes us) to make more disciples of all nations and teach them to obey God’s commands and His Word. He promised He would be with us always. The Spirit of God gives us wisdom, counsel, joy, understanding, knowledge, fear of the Lord and might. The Holy Spirit empowers us to obey God, love God and share the Word of God with others.

Time to splash!

On a hot day, nothing beats playing at the water table.

CURRENT MEMORY VERSE

In the beginning, was the WORD and the WORD was with God and the WORD was God.

Stories…

There is nothing like listening to a good story under some shady trees.

Putting some of our final labels on the timelines for this year.

There is such variety in the leaves in creation. From the way the veins are arranged on a leaf to how many leaves are on a branch, God’s design is outstanding. We learned that there are leaves that are more linear in their shape and some are more round or oval. We also learned about the different margins or leaf edges.  Finally, after studying the anatomy of a leaf, we painted some leaves that will be part of a decorative leaf garland for their final presentation. We invited the children to look around at the trees and plants at home so they would notice all the nuances.

In History, we added some of our final timeline pieces to the main strip in our binders.  We also wrapped up some work we had left to do with our state student sheets and bird cards.  It’s amazing to think about all we have learned about the beginnings of the United States of America.  In the next few weeks before the end of the term, we will be going over some important events in the history of Puerto Rico up until 1850.

A final highlight was honoring two of our students this week: both Esteban and Saul had birthdays to celebrate. As usual they were honored for the day and we had the pleasure of spending time with their families as well.
