Weeks 20 & 21: February 14-25 - I Am the Vine
I Am the Vine
A spinach vine being prepared for sowing in the garden this week.
Well we are so excited to be back to our “normal” routine, every day at the Center. After a few weeks of hybrid learning, we were finally able to return fully and boy did we get busy. From baking, to writing with quills, to silouette making and gardening, we really got our hands full. And on top of all of that, honored several birthday buddies and welcomed our a new seed: Aliah.

THE GARDEN
All 6 years of Eden with her new book, snacks and juice
Last week was a special one. We celebrated Eden's birthday! She had waited long enough, counting down the months and days to finally be 6 years old. We sang for her the birthday song we usually sing as a blessing upon the life of the child who is being honored that day. She got a book dedicated to her for the Garden library. Later on, we had juice and ate delicious cupcakes in her honor.
We continued our theme: Jesus our living water. We studied the story of John the baptizer. How his job was to exhort people to make room for Jesus in their hearts so later they could become his followers. We talked about how one day he got to baptize Jesus even though he felt unworthy to do so.
We also learned about the plagues in Egypt. How Pharaoh's heart was so hardened he would not let the people go. So God, through Moses, turned the Nile River into blood.
The children also got to play with the water table. This time, it had ducks and soap. It was a lot of fun for the kids! They also did drama with Mrs. Vivi and played with water and food coloring as they slid toys down the water slide.
During the morning meeting, the children have been learning the days of the week song in Spanish and in English. They are also learning the song of the months of the year (English and Spanish). It would be GREAT if they could practice at home.
This week, we drew and played with blocks again and worked out in the garden, preparing the soil for some new seeds and plants we are going to sow in the space.
Thank you Jesus for two fun weeks together.

MEMORY VERSE FOR SEEDS
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
Josh enjoying his sand dollar cookie.
What a sweet way to end our Zoology unit than by baking delicious sand dollar cookies. When we studied echinoderms two weeks ago, the students noted that the sand dollars looked like cookies and an idea for baking sand dollar cookies was born. The kids were thrilled to decorate and eat these treats and Mrs. Vivi couldn’t have asked for a better way to celebrate her birthday than to bake at Seeds!
After wrapping up our study of invertebrate animals, we began to prepare for our Botany unit by prepping our garden for sowing. Take a look at the gallery to see the kids working hard prepping the soil and planting spinach in pots around our fence. This week we will officially begin our study on the Kingdom of plants and will have a special guest to teach us how to use watercolors to make botanical prints. We cannot wait!!
Also, don’t forget to register for our field trip to Jardín Botánico de Caguas. All members of the family are welcome to come.
Kaylee practicing with her quill.
In History, we studied more on the declaration of Independence and had the opportunity to use traditional feather quills and ink to sign our own names. It was great to be reminded that this document acknowledges that there is a Creator and that He is the one who has given us our rights. We talked about what it means that “all men are created equal,” clarifying that although we are created equal, in terms of our worth, that doesn’t mean that we are all created the same. And yet, we are all created in the image of God. Isn’t that amazing!
To bring that point home, we studied how different we are as we compared the silhouettes we made. This activity also gave us an idea on how these iconic images were made in the 1700’s of famous people like George Washington. It was a really cool project to work on together. Take a look at all of them in the gallery below!
And finally, we had an awesome time celebrating and honoring Mrs. Vivi and Elise these past two weeks. They both were honored and also received special birthday books!
