Week 9 - Our Fortress, Our Refuge, and Stronghold
WATER from the Well
Week 9 · October 26, 2026 · 2026–2027 Program Year
This week, the Seeds continued to learn about God being the Rock of our Salvation (Psalm 18). We were back at the center this week, enjoying Books from our Library and lots of outdoor time, learning all we could (Especially about a little caterpillar we found at the park). check out the latest photos below!
THE GARDEN
Worship time: Bible passages: The stories of the Tower of Babel (Genesis 11:1-9) and God calls Abram (Genesis 12:1-9)
This week, we heard the story of how some people decided to build a super-tall tower that reached way up into the sky. They wanted to make themselves look important and didn’t listen to God’s command. Because the people disobeyed God, He changed their languages, and they could no longer understand one another. Following and obeying God's word is good and we honor Him when we obey.
We also learned about a time when God spoke to a man named Abram and told him to leave his family and friends and move to a new land. Abram obeyed God and left with his wife and nephew. God loves us, and we can trust Him even when we don’t know the whole plan!
Circle time: We talked about which animals use trees as their homes. We learned that birds build nests high up in tree branches to keep their eggs safe. We also looked at pictures of different kinds of bird nests and learned about the woodpecker and how it makes its home in a tree.
Activity time: This week, we had fun exploring colorful rice! The children used spoons and scoops to fill pumpkin, mushroom, and butterfly-shaped trays, creating their own colorful designs. It was a wonderful hands-on activity that encouraged creativity and helped develop their fine motor skills!
We also had fun creating our very own bird’s nests! The children used crinkled paper strips, yarn, tissue paper, and glue to make cozy nests for their little eggs.
Story time: “Tree” and “What is our Mouth For?”
SEEDS
Worship
This was a special week back at SEEDS as we honored two of our students: Isabel and Kylen. We also spent the week reviewing the name of God, “The Rock,” singing our song with Mr. Jean and reading Psalm 18:1-2. The students enjoyed a game we played where each team of students had to create a “safe hiding place” in groups of three whenever they heard the words, stronghold, refuge, or fortress; all words used in the passage to refer to God as our rock. They also received a rock with their name on it as a special gift to take home. Check out the reference verse on the back: Matthew 7:23.
Science
The students were so happy to have Mr. Josh as their substitute Science teacher. Mr. Josh loves birds and has spent many years studying creationist articles and books about adaptations in God's creation. He helped the students see that birds cannot evolve into other animals, nor that other animals like reptiles evolved into birds. Finally, after making a section for birds and their characteristics in their Science journals, Josh led some of the groups in drawing a toucan.
History
The kids are doing a fantastic job learning about the 13 colonies. We learned a new song (using two melodies) and worked on putting together a colony puzzle using cardboard. They did an amazing job figuring out how they all fit together. Some of the groups enjoyed some lego time while others read a little more information about our current composer: George Fredreick Handel.
OAKS
Worship
The morning Oaks students presented their projects this week with three students presenting paintings related to the giving of the law as described in the Book of Exodus, while the other two presented writing projects. It is truly an accomplishment that these students have already read the entire Pentateuch this year (the first 5 books of the Bible)
History
The students learned about two kings of Europe this week: Louis XIV of France and Frederick I of Prussia. Both contributed significantly to the history of their respective countries; Louis’ excess gave rise to the revolution to come in the next century, while Fredreck’s national pride, set the stage for the formation of a new country called: Germany. It was very interesting to compare and contrast these rulers together.
Science
This week the Physics students had their second test of the semester and they did very well. They began chapter seven this week, learning more about light and sound energy.
The Anatomy and Physiology students are working very hard memorizing the names of the bones. Even though our class was on Zoom, they were able to use the class skeleton "Bob" to name the bones and test each other. They will prepare to take their second test this week.
