We were able to see lots of new friendships formed this week as we introduced a lot of new exploration stations at the Garden. Meanwhile the Seeds and Oaks learned so much in their Physical Education classes. Read more below!

THE GARDEN

We had an amazingly blessed time this week once again as the children are still so excited to see their new friends and teachers everyday. We had our worship time and continued to learn songs, like, “In the beginning” as well as “And God said” before talking about days 3-4 of creation from Genesis 1.

The students began painting and practicing the proper way to use their art materials and clean up after themselves. Parents, ask them about “Swish, swish, glide, glide!” We also reviewed our student of the day classroom routine: he or she helps with the calendar, and moves the arrow on the daily schedule so we know what comes next. They also tell us what the weather is like using our weather chart.

We had water table playtime outside and kinetic sand sensory exploration inside. It was so much fun to explore and play in the big playground with new friends and practice new outdoor skills, like climbing, kicking and ball, and sharing small spaces. We practiced being kind and taking care of each other.

We ended our day with story time, using a book from the Gosling collection and “Gossie,” our reading plush buddy. This group really enjoys story time, and it’s a joy to see how immersed they become in the story before we sing our goodbye song.

SEEDS

The Seeds learned more about the name that Joseph received by the Angel: Jesus. Mr. Jean taught a song to the kids based on the passage found in Mark 1:18-21. In history class, the Seeds also learned about early American Explorers, including Christopher Columbus, Amerigo Vespucci and Ferdinand Magellan. We worked on our timelines and imagined what it would be like to sail the open seas like an explorer. Happy birthday to the Seeds we honored this week: Emiliano and Carib! To end the week, the kids loved being in the Studio with Mrs. Vivi enjoying all the fun new creative stations there.

OAKS

The Oaks morning program turned in their first argumentative paper of the year. They did a great job choosing their thesis statements and learning how to edit their work. In Science, both classes finished chapter 1 and had the opportunity to do a trial run at a test using their book and notes. Since the first chapters of the book are mostly reviewing basic concepts, it was a good way to introduce the new students to test taking with Professor Landry’s courses. This test will not count for their final grade. The older Physics students were also able to present for their classmates on several topics they had covered before in class like the base units of the metric system, the NSSR method and measures of central tendency. It was a great opportunity to synthesize what they had learned and help each other. The upcoming week we will begin Chapter 2. In History, the afternoon program studied in detail the life and travels of early explorer, Ferdinand Magellan. The students drew a portrait of Magellan while listening to facts about his life and explorations. Finally in Physical Education, the students began working on their fitness binders with Mrs. Michelle, recognizing that caring for their bodies is one of the ways they can honor God.
