Welcome Back!
〰️
Welcome Back! 〰️
Here are the SEEDS kids as they performed with some special guests at the end of semester presentation back in December, before saying goodbye for vacation. We had a wonderful time of rest over the last few weeks and are so excited to say “hello” to you all again!
SUGGESTED AT-HOME READINGS VARY PER PROGRAM. PLEASE GO TO THE SECTION OF YOUR PROGRAM TO SEE THE SELECTED PAGES.
The Garden
Our return to The Garden was filled with joy when we saw each other again and we shared how our Christmas time went.
During worship, we were able to discuss the story of the Magi. We will continue to hear more about the life of Jesus, which will lead us towards preparing to celebrate His resurrection in the Spring.
During activity time, we discussed the new month of January and how, in many parts of the world, it is snowing during this time. During this unit, we will be sharing with the children about winter and snow.
New rhyme “I’m a Little Snowman” Ask them to share it with you.
Story: The Christmas Promise
The Seeds Program
WORSHIP
We began the Seeds Program again last Friday and introduced our Bible study for the second semester: the Gospel of Luke. We will be going through some of the stories as told in the book over the next few months and you can follow along at home using your DK Illustrated Bibles. Here is a figure of Luke holding his pencil for us to remember that he was the writer. We also honored Javvah, who celebrated her birthday over the break.
We want to say a special thank you to Jeremy Hill who joined us before the break to do a lesson on the viola and perform with the students at their presentation.
SCIENCE/STUDIO TIME
After learning about bones and the skeleton, I asked the students, “What is stronger than bone?” After a few tries, they eventually guessed the answer: teeth. Although many people think that teeth are bones, teeth, unlike bones, are not alive. We learned that teeth are covered by a strong coat called enamel and that only diamonds are stronger than enamel. The enamel protects the living part inside of the tooth. Because they cannot repair themselves like bones can, we need to protect our teeth very well, especially our second teeth. The kids shared different stories about how they lost their teeth and we began to learn about the different types of teeth and what the purpose of them is.
History
Getting back to History class this week, we reviewed that after the Roman Empire fell, a new kingdom took prominence and that was the Byzantine Empire. We looked at many famous mosaics of that time period including small, portable ones that inspired our next project. We began to cut out small pieces from colored paper to use as “tiles” for our study next week. Looking forward to seeing the designs the kids come up with.
The Oaks Program
WORSHIP
We held our end of the semester party in the OAKS program which included our third “Bible-Bee” of the year. These “bees” are times for the Oaks Students to demonstrate their memorization of the verses we have learned so far in the class. In the photo, Finn and I pose with one of the lovely cards he gave to his teachers.
In addition to the party, the students began watching the film “Julius Caesar” as a culmination of our unit on the Roman Empire.
We look forward to starting the program this Tuesday, January 13.
SECOND SEMESTER NEWS!!!!
