Week 13: Giving Thanks
WEEK 13: Giving Thanks
As we approached our Thanksgiving break, we had so much to be thankful for, despite some unexpected changes to our normal program.
Scroll down to see the supplemental readings for the week, galleries of our latest photos, and our current memory verse.
Say SNEEZE!
Being on ZOOM due to illness couldn’t keep us from smiling!
SUGGESTED READINGS FOR THE WEEK
The readings are meant to reinforce the topics covered from last week and to have the parents understand more fully what is being covered in the classes. They are not required for the class, but a good supplement. You can try to read all or just a few selections. Use your discretion what to cover based upon the ages of your children.

This week was different, but a good and fun one. We had a special helper today, Miss Gilmarie! The kids loved her. We showed Miss Gilmarie the songs we have been learning in worship time and learned about Hannah and her son Samuel. We learned how God listens to and answers our prayers. God gave Hannah a son and she followed through on her promise and dedicated him to the Lord's work. God blessed all their lives.
This week we enjoyed the small park and building puzzles. Juan Diego and Hallel could not get enough of arming puzzles. Elena enjoyed much of this week's ice activity. Since this week's letter was the “Ii”, our activity was with ice. Each child had a tray filled up with ice and also had salt and food coloring. As they poured the salt on the ice, they became scientists. When they poured the salt, they noticed the ice melted faster! They had loads of fun exploring the ice and the food coloring.
We hope you enjoyed your break; we thank God for all of the children of the Garden and their families.
SEEDS - Grades 1-6
We held one day at the center and online. Check out some of the things the kids did this week in Science.
Science
We did a thorough review of heterogeneous and homogeneous mixtures on Wednesday and built simple models of the four colloids that we learned about last week: foams, gels, aerosols, and emulsions. The students got to take turns adding the tiny particles of solids, liquids, or gasses to the liquid or gas base.
We also compared solutions that were diluted and concentrated by adding a drop of food coloring to a bottle of water to see how the mixture would look and then added at least 10 drops of the food coloring to see the concentration increase.
On Friday we discussed some of the ways you can separate mixtures using a physical process, due to the fact that mixtures are combined through a physical process:
Evaporation—liquid turning into gas
Filtration—removing dirt and toxins
Sifting—separating different particles
Magnetism—using magnets to remove magnetic metals
Chromatography—separating colors
I am looking forward to beginning our study of PHYSICS with the students when we all return from the break!
Studio
On Wednesday, we worked a lof on our danza. The focus on dance has been a great way to prepare for our trip to see the Nutcracker on Friday. December 2. We are so excited!
OAKS - 7+
Worship
The OAKS students met the entire week online and had a great time learning about some of the new states we are adding to our collection of states as they were included in the nation at the end of the 1800s. For example, we did a recipe together using honey, as honey is one of the major products of North Dakota. This week we will continue our study and add more student sheets to our binders at the center.

Memory Verse #7
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is a gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
