Week 8: October 25-29 - Jesus the Rock of Ages
Jesus the ROCK of Ages
Miss Vivi here was teaching the song “Rock of Ages” which the kids accompanied with their rhythm sticks.
In worship this week, we began learning a new name for Jesus: the Rock. Throughout Scripture, God is described as a rock, in whom we can find refuge and shelter. This is an important reminder for us as we sometimes can go through difficult circumstances. What great promises we have in God’s word! As a visual lesson, the kids went out into the field by the playground to find rocks that they could paint white, to help us remember that one day, to the one who is victorious, Jesus “will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it.” - Revelation 2:17
Take time to memorize with your kids the new memory verse listed below. And keep practicing our hymn for this month: “Cuando Andemos con Dios” (in English - “Trust and Obey”). We will be learning the 3rd verse this week.
“I love you oh Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, deliverer. My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.”

Guess who I am?
Kids playing animal charades
Although, this week we missed each other on Tuesday, we were all so happy to be together again on Thursday. In worship, we talked about perseverance and not giving up. We discussed the story about the war between the Israelites and Amalekites where Moses had to raise up his hands for victory. Moses was up in the mountain and when he got tired, his friends came up and helped him raise his hands until the Israelites had the victory. Moses did not give up and God sent help. God is always willing and able to help us, He wants to help us.
After worship, the kids enjoyed a fun new game at our park. The children played an animal guessing game with Miss Nicole. They had to act out an animal and the rest of the kids had to guess the animal and then join in acting the animal out. That was so much fun! After our game, Miss Vivi introduced different sized prisms so the children could see how the light reflected a rainbow. The children took turns and waited patiently and lovingly. After the park, we had fun playing pretend with the kitchen and also playing with the blocks. The kids built amazing castles and acted out the story Miss Vivi had taught that day about Moses. Finally, we read “The Tortoise and the Hare” and emphasized how we are capable of doing many things if we persevere and don’t give up.
Jesus is the Rock.
SEEDS
This week, after extending our study of mammals, we began learning about birds. We learned what all birds have in common as well as the six groups birds are divided into: perching, preying, game, water, flightless, and tropical. The children began their section on birds in their Science notebooks and added pages on different bird beaks and feet. We studied why birds have different kinds of feet and bills. We will continue to learn about their respiratory and circulatory systems as well as their amazing flying design.
Our Zoology presentations continued with Esteban presenting on the Giraffe-Necked Weevil, Joshua on the Blue-Ringed Octopus, and Cedrick on the Green-Crested Lizard. It has been a wonderful opportunity for the children to practice public speaking and thinking on their feet while they are asked different questions after their presentations. Next week, Olivia and Carolina will be presenting.
One of the most fascinating things about studying History is learning about the different events that occurred during the same time periods. While the colonies in America were being established and the Puritan children learning to read and write with their primers, over in England and Europe, great change was occurring. The kingdom had been restored under Charles II, and over in France, a fancy kingdom of extravagance was being built under Louis XIV. The kids were amazed at watching a virtual tour of the Chateau of Versailles. We encourage you to watch the videos again with your kids which can be found at the quicklinks website for our book, The Last 500 Years.

The readings above are NOT homework. They are optional readings to reinforce and review with your children the topics covered in their previous classes. If possible, make these readings cozy, comfy, fun, and an activity that the entire family can enjoy together. Kids may even just enjoy skimming these pages on their own, and looking at the pictures. A post-it or an index card will help them find this week’s sections.
