THE GARDEN
Matias practicing symmetry
This week was an extra special week because baby Sara was born into the Rios family. We are overjoyed and every child in Garden was so excited to see pictures of the new baby. Just like waiting for a butterfly to emerge from its cocoon, we were waiting with such anticipation for her arrival over the last few weeks. Congratulations family!
This week at the Garden Mrs. Vivi was teaching about Jesus. In our Bible story we heard about when Jesus was at the sea of Galilee and gathered his twelve disciples. He told them to tell people about the Kingdom of God. His disciples came close to the poor, healed the sick and cast out unclean spirits.
In one of the stories, we learned about Jairus and his daughter. His daughter was sick and he asked Jesus to go to his home to heal her. On their way to the house, a woman who had been bleeding for twelve years, touched Jesus’ garment and was healed. Jesus told her that her faith had healed her. After that, Jairus’ servants caught up to him and told him her daughter had died. Jesus told Jairus not to be afraid. When they got to their home, Jesus told the girl to get up and she started walking. The people who witnessed the miracle marveled and were full of joy. We learned that there is nothing impossible for God! He is great and mighty.
The children this week also enjoyed playing “restaurant” in the drama kitchen, playing in the big park, working on their symmetry challenges, and drawing insects. We also practiced the days of the week, the months of the year and sang our Caterpillar song.
Thank you God for another great week at the Garden.
SEEDS
CURRENT MEMORY VERSE
“Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.”
Amazing flowers!
In studying the structure of these beauties of creation, we marveled at God’s perfect order.
Cedrick as John the Baptist receives the people coming to the Jordan.
In History, we learned about two inventions that changed the world, the Steam Engine and the Cotton Gin. Both were revolutionary to their times and helped move the United States towards becoming a leader in world industry. We also finished seeing how the 13 original colonies ratified the Constitution and officially became states. The students took home the state bird cards for these states to continue learning more about them.
In worship, we introduced our new memory verse from John 1:29, as we now have begun to speak about Jesus being “the Lamb of God.” We looked at the narrative in the gospel of John to see when this was declared about him by his cousin, John the Baptist while many were being baptized in the Jordan River. The kids had a great time dramatizing this account.
“Consider how the lilies grow: They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his glory was adorned as one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith!…” (Luke 12:27) It was a lovely week to consider the lilies of the field in Botany. On Wednesday, we learned that God has given seeds a very specific job: making flowers. We saw that God took great care even in the amount of petals that a flower has. On Friday, we had the opportunity to dissect a lily and learn about its different parts. The children marveled at God’s pattern in nature that just as there needs to be a male and female to create a human baby, so God has designed each flower with a male and female part. Each part works together to form the seed that will eventually become its own plant. After looking closely at all the parts, the children made diagrams in their science journals to document their learning.
